Chris + Laura’s real Wedding, City Hall + Odessa Club, Dublin
We love escaping into the city, especially when the city is as fabulous as Dublin. City centre weddings have always had a special place in our heart – they just make us want to be there enjoying the good times. So when we were sent this beautiful Dublin city wedding we knew we had to feature it. Laura and Chris’ gorgeous wedding was a small intimate affair with a big dollop of city love on top.
I wanted a wedding dress that I could wear again. From the beginning I always had an evening style dress in my mind. As we were having a city wedding I also wanted a dress that was comfortable. I used Pinterest for inspiration and although I tried on dresses in wedding shops, I also kept a close on eye on evening gowns and finally found ‘the one’ – a Rachel Gilbert dress – in Harrods Dept Store in the evening dress department. It was a floor length dress champagne/ivory beaded dress. Don’t let Harrods fool you into thinking it was a pricey gown, it was within budget and much more inexpensive than a wedding gown.’
Odessa was our reception venue, it has unique character with wood panelled walls and parquet flooring, it used to be an old members club so we wanted to make the most of its character and decorated the tables with pot plants instead of fresh flowers from Flora Ltd in Dublin. Flora also did the flowers for City Hall and corsages. Gold and silver night light candles were dotted everywhere and the roof top terrace was decorated with the same decorations along with lanterns, candles and throws to keep guests warm on the terrace.
As we had friends and family travelling from all over the world we wanted a Dublin City venue in a historic building and for everyone to see Dublin City at its best. My brother also got married at Dublin City Hall and since then I’ve been in awe of the beautiful interior. We had a civil ceremony/ non-religious ceremony which meant we could adapt the ceremony to a certain extent, with acoustic music and my sister and sister-in-law read poems one which was written by them which was about the day Chris and I met, the ceremony will forever stay in our hearts. It was a very emotional ceremony; full of happy tears and laughter.’ says Laura
Chris’ sister Nicola has her own stationary business and kindly designed and made the wedding invitations, table plan and place-names too. We wanted something simple with a minimalist feel and nothing too feminine. As we had guests coming for a few days Nicola even managed to include maps and things to do in “Dublin’s Fair City” in the invites. Chris was wearing a navy polka dot tie on the day so we matched the ribbon on all the invitations and decorations to his outfit, not the brides! Our wedding cake was a chocolate biscuit and malteser cake made by a family friend and the fabulous cake toppers were made by Lily Belles Cakes. We are both massive rugby fans and the toppers were Chris in an England rugby jersey and me in an Irish rugby jersey.
