Arts & Deco Wedding

Mark + Patrice, The Mac Belfast + Cafe Vaudville Belfast

We seen getting married as an opportunity to create a fabulous party to celebrate our love’, says Patrice and Mark. The couple plants a rowan tree in their garden the morning of the wedding as a symbol of their marriage. Patrice wore her mother’s wedding dress, which was originally made in the 1950s. ‘I was involve with the old-school glamour of the sunning white lace, scalloped sleeves, and timeless dropped waist’, explains Patrice. ‘The only amendments made were to shorted the dress from its original floor length to tea length, and to ass a sliver beaded trim to the waist.’  With the leftover dress material Patrice’s seamstress made her a surprise wedding clutch bag.

An intimate wedding breakfast was held in The Mac Belfast, in the heart of the Catherdral Quarter. The evening reception was held in the house of Champagne, Cafe Vaudville.  ‘Over the years or personalities and takes have merged.’ says Patrice. ‘It wasn’t surprising to us when we needed up having two venues, one a highly contemporary arts venue and the other a rich decadent art deco style bar.’

Mark and Patrice were the first couple to be married in the Mac. ‘The room provided a plank white canvas for us to add our own style, while still retaining a modern edge of exposed concrete, and a beautiful view onto the square.’ The added a mix of bold colours, materials and textures as decorations, including glass, slate, wood, wax, felt and twine. The centrepieces included heart shaped slates with lyrics from their favourite love songs. The guest favours were miniature drinks from around the world with a brief note on the history of each drink. Some friends made the paper decorations for both venues, including pom poms, love birds, 3D hears and collie buntings. A sweet table was organised by friends that included chocolate truffles and rainbow macaroons.

‘I just love drag queen shows, so having Tina Legs Tantrum and the Follies at Cafe Vaudville for the evening entertainment was a highlight’ says Patrice. ‘We both ended up dancing on the stage by the end of the night!’
