A Moment with bridal makeup artist SAK designs

So lets face it, you want your bridal makeup to look flawless, you really do need a professional. Luckily for you we have MUA Stacy Kilpatrick (SAK designs) here to share her expert knowledge and know-how.

As a make up artist I am best known for my natural, flawless looks. I love seeing a bride's true character shine through. Unfortunately some makeup trends and social media influences often leave brides feeling that they need to wear a heavy contoured look on their wedding day. However, if like me you prefer a natural look, then you should not feel pressured to apply heavier amounts of make up for bridal photography, it's unnecessary. All you really need to do is enhance your natural make up correctly.

Natural beauty is about working with your features and bringing out the best in you, not hiding under a mask. The aim should be to create a perfect base, accentuating your best features and keep it looking real. Having worked in the bridal industry for over seven years, I have created hundreds of looks for many different types of brides. I especially love creating a 'less is more' bridal look: beautiful, dewy skin and softly defined cheekbones and minimal eyes. I work with a wide range of products to create natural bridal looks, some of which I will pinpoint for you.

My favourite highlighter for brides with paler skin tones is Senna Cosmetics Enlighten. 'Pure Light' by Delilah cosmetics is a stunning illuminator, beautiful on all skin tones and gives the skin the most incredible natural glow. Cream blushers create a gorgeous flush of colour, keeping the overall look natural and healthy, again I love Senna Cosmetics Cheeky Blush or Daniel Sandler Watercolour Blusher. Your eyes do not need to be heavily lined or overstated with bold colours. If I am using liner I prefer softer shades such as Bobbi Brown gel pot in Black Shimmer Mauve. Eylure and Ardell have some great natural lashes to help add a little more definition to your own lashes without it looking too obvious. To make sure you're getting the best results, have your bridal trial when natural daylight is available. This is the harshest light source you will encounter on your wedding day, so test your make up in natural daylight and then nothing can go wrong.

It is important you choose a make up artist who has the talent to create a look that will appear natural and beautiful in a variety of light sources; from natural daylight, right through to your last dance. This make up design must also sistine a full day (15 hours), so it's vital that your make up artist is using the best products to achieve a lasting look. Furthermore, and most importantly, it's crucial that you work with a make up artist who you feel comfortable with and one that will help enhance your natural beauty.
