Bridal Skin Care

I chatted before about daily skin care and the importance of keeping a routine.  Our skin however doesn’t always play fair, and no matter how rigorous you are with your daily skin care rituals, sometimes we need a little added boost of TLC - especially in the run up to your wedding!

Good old Irish weather can play havoc with our skin – one minute it’s BALTIC, the next minute the sweat is pouring off us.  We’re exposed to the extremes of air con and central heating, and on top of our busy day to day juggling act we call life, and the added pressures of organising a wedding (I was grossly naïve as to how much time this took up!), us ladies battle with lovely little things called hormones.  On top of our diet, etc. these all affect our skin!

So, what can we do?  Firstly, work out what your skin concerns are.  We are too often confused with such and such a brand’s new product, that we don’t often ask – is this what I actually NEED?  If your skin is dull, it’s most likely dry and needs exfoliated.  If it’s oily and blemish prone, it needs clarified.  If it’s red and blotchy, it needs nourished.  Sometimes it can be a combination of a few things, in which case a little bit of #multimasking is in order!

I suffer primarily with very dry skin, but I also get hormonal break outs.  To brighten my skin, I’m a big fan of enzyme exfoliators over scrubs, as I find them less abrasive and more effective.  My absolute favourite is Ren Glycol Lactic Radiance Renewal mask which only needs to be left on for 10-15 minutes, but for a quick fix, I like Nip + Fab Glycolic Fix Exfoliating Facial Pads.

For break outs, it’s hard to beat Eve Lom Rescue Mask.  It’s a little pricey, but it does quite a few things so I feel its good value for money - it decongests, reduces redness, absorbs oil, reduces puffiness and also exfoliates and conditions skin.  Waow!  To target specific blemishes, Cloud 9 Clarity Skin Clearing Spot Gel is great.  It’s a little different to normal spot products in that it doesn’t contain drying salicylic acid, but Vitamin B3 instead.  Along with calming chamomile and a couple of other spot zapping ingredients, this can be used under make-up as it has a primer like finish once applied.

To soothe and nourish (especially after using an exfoliating mask), I really love Nude ProGenius Omega Treatment Oil.  It’s packed full of omegas which are like food for your skin.  Totally. Amazing. Product.

Finally, as a treat, and because I had it done once before and received compliments for days after about how glowing my skin was, I’m going to book for an oxygen facial the week before my wedding.  Put simply, it’s a cocktail of tailored ingredients delivered through an airbrush style device…seriously, check it out ladies!  Barbara Russell offers these in her treatment room or from the comfort of your own home.  Call 07907639905 for more info.
